OPEN-NEXT (ITA: “Supporto di sistemi real-time su piattaforme eterogenee di prossima generazione”) is a project under the FESR programme of Regione Emila Romagna (Italy).
The project will develop a software framework to support computation- and memory-intensive industrial workloads, on top of next-generation low-power embedded many-cores. The adoption such platform will reduce power consumption by an order of magnitude, whe compared to current, general-purpose-based systems. The adoption of simple, lighweight programming interfaces à la OpenMP, or aggressively parallel, GPU-oriented languages such as CUDA, will ease programmability and develop of parallel software.
The project will be validated on two “real” use cases, provided by our partner, enabling quick yet effective tecnology transfer from OPEN-NEXT towards real industrial settings.
